The editors of Teksty Drugie recognise that generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies may be used in scholarly work, provided that the principles of transparency, authorial responsibility, research integrity and confidentiality of the editorial process are observed.
Authors
Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship entails responsibility for the content of a publication, which cannot be assigned to an AI system.
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools whenever such tools have influenced the content, structure, argumentation, interpretation, translation or preparation of visual materials. The disclosure must identify the tool used and describe the purpose and extent of its use.
The following declaration should be placed at the end of the manuscript, immediately before the references:
Declaration of the use of generative artificial intelligence: During the preparation of this article, the author(s) used [name of tool or service] for [purpose and extent of use]. The author(s) reviewed and edited all generated material as necessary and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.
The use of tools limited to basic spelling, punctuation or grammar checks does not have to be disclosed, provided that the tools do not introduce substantive changes to the content or structure of the manuscript.
Where AI tools form part of the research methodology—for example, in the analysis or classification of research material—their use must be described in sufficient detail in the relevant section of the article.
Authors remain fully responsible for:
- the accuracy of all information presented;
- the reliability of citations and bibliographic references;
- the originality of the manuscript;
- compliance with copyright and third-party rights;
- the protection of personal and confidential data;
- verifying AI-generated material for errors, bias, fabricated information and non-existent references.
AI-generated content must not replace scholarly sources or be cited as the source of claims that can be verified in scholarly publications or primary materials.
Reviewers and editors
Submitted manuscripts, review reports and editorial correspondence are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts or parts of manuscripts to publicly available generative AI tools where the submitted material may be retained, reused or disclosed.
AI tools must not replace the independent judgement of reviewers or editorial decision-making. Responsibility for a review report, the evaluation of a manuscript and the final editorial decision must always remain with a human reviewer or editor.
Any use of AI tools for technical or linguistic assistance in preparing a review or editorial communication must preserve confidentiality. Uses extending beyond basic language correction should be disclosed to the editorial office.
Breaches of the policy
Undisclosed, unreliable or confidentiality-infringing use of generative AI may be treated as a breach of publication ethics. Depending on the stage of the publishing process, it may result in a request for clarification or revision, rejection of the manuscript, publication of a correction or retraction of the article.
This policy may be revised in response to technological developments and changes in ethical standards for scholarly communication.
